Instagram Takeovers are becoming more and more popular, so naturally we wanted to get in on the fun. We’ll be letting different bands takeover our Instagram account periodically to offer a unique glimpse into their lives.

To kick things off we’ll be handing over our Instagram account to Dallas rockers, Dead Flowers. These guys are about to drop their sophomore album called His Blues. In fact, their record release party is just a week away.

Follow @deepdallas on Instagram for a play-by-play of the week leading up to their release. The Deep Dallas Instagram Takeover with the Dead Flowers starts THIS FRIDAY (10/10) which is the perfect prelude to their album release party on Saturday at Club Dada in Deep Ellum. The Van Sanchez and Deadmoon Choir will also be performing to celebrate the release.

We had the opportunity to chat with one of Dallas’ hottest bands, The Roomsounds, at Ferralog Studio in Deep Ellum about their work, influences & what inspires them.

Band members consist of Ryan Michael (lead vocals, guitar), Dan Malone (drums), Sam Janik (guitar, vocals) and Red Coker (bass, vocals).

These guys have that cool seventies vibe that make people want to shout “I am a golden god!” You know, like Billy Crudup before he lept into a swimming pool in Almost Famous. That is to say, they’ve got great hair, and they play great rock n’ roll.

I’m the girl in the front row gettin’ down at every show. Does that make me a fan girl? Yeah, probably. But I don’t care. I like good music and The Roomsounds bring it.

They are great people, great friends to Deep Dallas, and they go ALL IN when it come to their music.

To sum it up The Roomsounds, Ryan Michael says it best…

Fort Worth band The Will Callers are still finding heir way after having lost two of the original band members in a fatal car crash in 2010. Lead singer Jake Murphy and drummer Daniel Slaton are long-time friends and are the glue that’s held the band together through rough times.

In our first-ever Deep Dallas Studio Session, we had the chance to sit down with these alt-country rockers at Ferralog Studio in Deep Ellum to chat about their work and what’s next for the band.

Unfortunately, their drummer Daniel Slaton was out of town when we shot this video, which is why they chose to play an acoustic set. But even performing unplugged, you can’t deny the immense talent of this band.

They recently released their debut album, What Else is Left?, produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard thanks to a successful kickstarter campaign.

The album features Jake and Daniel and features some amazing musicians including George Reiff, Brad Rice and Scrappy Jud Newcomb to name a few.

Here’s hoping The Will Callers keep making great music, play more Dallas gigs and find sticky band mates that share their vision.

Gentleman by Fela Kuti
Anything Fela is good. He is compared to James Brown but brings a sound that’s all his own. I air cook to this particular track. I pretend to chop up imaginary veggies and throw them into an imaginary sizzlin’ skillet.

Key to the Highway by Freddie King
The first few seconds of this track are BLISS. From what I can hear, most of Eric Clapton’s chops come from Freddie King (which makes me like E.C. even less for some reason).

I Wanna Destroy You by The Soft Boys
From Robyn Hitchcock’s early outfit. Tis a battle cry if I ever heard one.

White Winos by Loudon Wainwright III
The sense of tension in this song between Loudon, his mother, and his father is perversely intoxicating.

Look Out Cleveland by The Band
I recently played a few shows with a “The Band” cover band, so these songs are having some difficulty escaping my mind (and my dancing shoes). Fun times / great songs.

When he’s not melting girl’s hearts, here’s the music The Roomsound’s front man Ryan Michael is listening to — from classic music like The Rolling Stones (duh!) to newer tunes by US Royalty. And he “loves a good pop song ” We love it when macho band guys show their softer side. Don’t you?

The Desert Won’t Save You by US Royalty
I love the whole US Royalty album Mirrors but this track is a stand out. It’s a psychedelic slow burn that climaxes into fuzzed out Zeppelin-esque riffs. Enough said.

Junkie Bones by Ryan Traster
This track has a haunting tension that I really like.  Close your eyes and drift away, you’ll see what I mean.

Borstal Boys by Faces
I can’t get enough of the Faces lately. Featuring Rod Stewart on vocals (before he turned into a lame adult contemporary artist), Ronnie Wood on guitar, who joined The Stones later, not to mention Kenny Jones  on drums who joined The Who after Keith Moon’s death. These guys played blues at punk rock speeds and are seriously underrated.

Find the Light by David Ramirez
My friend Ashley turned me on to this song. I love the sparse production and arrangement.

Happy by Rolling Stones
This song appears on my favorite Stones record “Exile on Main Street” and features Keith Richards on lead vocals. I listen to it almost daily simply because it makes me happy.

It’s Alright by The Redwalls
Just a fun uptempo rock n’ roll song that’s reminiscent of early Beatles. Have a few drinks and turn it up, you won’t be able to stop dancing.

Flat Tire by The Rosewood Thieves
Timeless and incredibly hypnotic. Sounds like if John Lennon sang something Jeff Tweedy wrote.

Shanghai Cigarettes” by Caitlin Rose
I love a good pop song. Has a nice sunshiny Americana feel that I can’t get enough of.
